We can choose to do what we want...
“Donut or broccoli, Madam?”
Yum, donut! Yes, please.
Or maybe not. Let’s be healthy today. Pass me the broccoli!
That’s what free will is all about, isn’t it: making choices?
But hold on... We can't choose what it is that we want
We don’t choose that donuts taste great…
That’s just the way it is. That’s life.
Donuts are nice . Broccoli less so.
What would we do if we were really in control?
If we were really in charge, wouldn’t we make the choice that the donut didn’t taste nice?
Wouldn’t that be the smart move? Stop having to fight the urge to do things that we know are bad for us – just change it all around so that the things that were bad for us just weren’t even desirable in the first place?
Wouldn’t that make life so much easier?
Wouldn’t that be free will worth having?
